Players
Juveniles
Cork runs leagues, county championships, development squads and inter-county teams for juvenile players. Each club's juvenile secretary is the contact for entering players. Dates are on the events calendar, where juvenile events are marked.
Entering events
Juvenile events are entered through Tournament Software, not on the day. Entries close at least two weeks before each event.
Juvenile leagues
- The leagues start with under-13s and under-15s. Under-17s and under-19s depend on numbers, and may be combined.
- Under-11s start after Christmas.
- Girls' and boys' leagues run before Christmas and a mixed league after.
- A girls' or boys' team names 6 players and a mixed team 12. A player can only be on one panel.
- Players play in their own age group and can't play up an age. From September to Christmas that's the group for their current age. From January to March, it's the group for their age in the new year.
Juvenile league entries close on Thursday 15 October 2026.
County Championships
The juvenile County Championships are in November, with singles, doubles and mixed events. They start in pools. Players can only play in their own age group.
- Under-13 and under-17: Sunday 8 November 2026, MTU
- Under-15: Sunday 15 November 2026, Bandon
Development squads
Development squads start in October. The plan is to run them in two regions: West Cork for the West Cork clubs, and the city for the rest of the county.
The juvenile development day is on Sunday 4 October 2026 at MTU. Entries close on Wednesday 30 September.
Inter-county
| Age group | Date | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| Under-11 | Sunday 21 March 2027 | SETU |
| Under-13 | January 2027, date to be confirmed | Killarney |
| Under-15 | Sunday 28 February 2027 | Borrisoleigh or Clonlara |
| Under-17 | Sunday 14 March 2027 | MTU |
| Under-19 | Sunday 21 March 2027 | SETU |
A player can only be picked if they're properly affiliated before Badminton Ireland's deadline in January, so clubs should check their juvenile players' affiliations early.
Selectors
Each inter-county team needs 3 selectors, from 3 different clubs. Without enough selectors, a team doesn't go ahead. Selectors must:
- be vetted
- not be the parent of a child who could play on that team
- travel with the team
- be available for squad sessions
- attend the County Championships for the age group they're selecting
Playing in adult competitions
Juveniles can play in some adult competitions:
- Mixed league: at least 14 for grade D and above, 16 for grades E and F, and 18 for grades G and H. These are Badminton Ireland's rules.
- Men's and ladies' leagues: under-18s can play this season, as long as they're correctly graded before the leagues start. Council reviews their grades through the season.
- County Championships: under-18s can play, but can't go on to represent Cork at the Munster finals.
What clubs provide
Each club nominates two people to help run juvenile badminton: administration, competitions and squads. Both must be vetted and have done safeguarding training.
