Competitions

Besides the leagues, Cork runs its own championships and cups, and picks the teams that represent the county. Dates for all of them are on the events calendar.

County Championships

The County Championships are open to anyone registered with a Cork club for the season. They're run across several days through the season, split by event and grade.

The format depends on how many entries come in for each event, so it's set once entries close. Winners go on to the Munster finals.

Under-18s can play in the County Championships, but can't go on to represent Cork at the Munster finals.

Handicap Cup and Championship Cup

Both cups are club team competitions. Each tie is six matches:

  • 2 men's doubles
  • 2 ladies' doubles
  • 2 mixed doubles

The Championship Cup is played without handicaps.

In the Handicap Cup, each team has a handicap, and so can individual players. Since the 2025/26 season the two add together: a player's own handicap goes on top of their team's.

The Handicap Cup uses the league panels, so only players on a team's panel can play for it. Two kinds of player also need to have played in at least half of their team's league fixtures before they can play in the Handicap Cup:

  • a player with an individual handicap
  • a player who didn't play in Cork competitions the previous season

Handicap Cup matches are best of three games.

The list of individual handicaps comes out around the end of October, once the leagues are finalised, and is emailed to every club secretary.

Inter-county

Inter-county teams are players picked to represent Cork against the other counties, first in Munster and then, for the provincial winners, at the All-Ireland finals.

An inter-county tie is nine matches:

  • 1 men's singles
  • 1 ladies' singles
  • 2 men's doubles
  • 2 ladies' doubles
  • 3 mixed doubles

To play for Cork, you must have lived in the county at the start of the year the season began in. For the 2026/27 season, that means living in Cork on 1 January 2026.

Squad nights

Anyone who wants to try out for a county team can come to the squad nights. The squad is narrowed down over the season until the final team is picked.

Squad nights are listed on the events calendar and posted on the association's Facebook page.

Masters

Masters events are split into over-age groups. Your age group depends on your age on 1 January of the year the event is in, not the season. To play in an over-40 event in 2027, you must be 40 by 1 January 2027.

Juveniles

Cork runs juvenile competitions and championships through the season, along with development squad sessions and inter-county juvenile squads. They're all on the events calendar, where juvenile events are marked.
